excaliburedpan and I both happen to be reading this danmei book at the moment, so I thought I'd throw up a post for any comments if anyone wants to read along now or later, and shove my locked-twitter read-along thoughts somewhere more accessible. I'm going to break it up by blocks of chapters, then do an Overall Thoughts subsection. Assume spoilers.

- Third person omniscient where MXTX either CANNOT HELP giving you an LBH POV moment OR she strategically decides to let you double-read scenes and question the narrator all over this book, further destabilising sqq's theory of this world as unreal bc LBH CAN HAVE outside pov

- Why the fuck did no one get Liu PoorPedagoGe out of seclusion when this stupid shit started is the floor LAVA just get fucking reinforcements???

- I guess SQQ indirectly sent Ning Yingying but why not do that—first? Why did no one else— Eugh

- You know why Liu Qingge sucks shit tho and I don’t forgive him? I mean this very literally: it’s bc he’s a bad teacher. PPL GO TO SCHOOL HERE, I DONT CARE IF YOU WANT HIM FOR YOUR THREESOME! PICK A RESPONSIBLE EDUCATOR!!

- a wild amount of cultural borrowing from Japan in this book. Maybe it’s like Importance of Being Earnest: women only call each other ‘sister’ after they’ve called each other a LOT of other shit first. Only after two countries have both viciously colonised each other can they be real friends?
